Chakdaha, Oct. 22: In Nadia three persons died in two separate road accidents those occurred on NH34 during the wee hours of Sunday morning.

In the first incident one person died and another was injured when a Mahindra Bolero rammed on the back of a lorry on NH34 in Chakdaha. Joydeep Karmakar (32), a trader from North 24Pargana’s Sindrani, who was returning Calcutta died on the spot. The driver of vehicle Nisith Nath (28) was injured in the accident and admitted to Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital in Kalyani with multiple injuries. Police said, preliminary findings suggest that the driver of the vehicle became sleepy and lost control of the vehicle before it rammed on to the stationary lorry near a road side dhaba.

In the other incident, two youths died and four of their friends were injured when the Maruti Swift they were travelling had a head on collision with a lorry coming from opposite direction near Jagulia on NH34 under Haringhata police station. Baban Mandal (24) and Mintu Mollah (19) died on the spot while four others were seriously injured. They were admitted to Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial hospital in Kalyani. All the victims are residents of Chakdaha. The incident occurred during the late hours of Saturday night when the six youths were returning to home after visiting Kali puja in Barasat. Police said, preliminary investigations revealed that all the youths including the driver of the vehicle were drunk when the accident occurred. According to one of the injured youths, they took food and alcohol from a road side hotel before the accident.
