Hogolberia (Nadia): Prosenjit Biswas, a BSF constable from Nadia’s Hogolberia, posted in Sundarbani area under Rajouri district close to Indo-Pakistan border died in unprovoked firing by Pakistani forces on Thursday evening.

Prosenjit had earlier in the afternoon called his wife Sumana and apprised her that he would come home to celebrate holi with his newborn son and also bought air tickets.  

But, Sumana received the bad news from one of Prosenjit’s colleagues later in the evening who called to apprise her that he attained martyrdom.

Prosenjit, who joined BSF in 2013 and posted along Indo Pak border in Jammu since then, came home on a vacation during diwali and left home on November 15, barely two days after his son was born.

“It was his commitment to job that forced to leave home even though he could stay home for few more says extending leave due to ailing wife on paternity ground. But, Prosenjit preferred to go to the front assuring wife to come back soon”, said Biswajit Biswas, his brother in law in a broken voice.

“He called his wife Sumana and also called me about his plan to celebrate holi with the new born. But, the almighty probably did not approve his plans”, added Biswajit.

Sunderbani area of Rajouri as he earned fatal injuries when Pakistani army began unprovoked firing in the area. Manasa Ram, another BSF constable was injured in the firing. 

A BSF official said, “The two personnel were rescued and taken to Satwari military hospital where he succumbed to injuries later”.

“It was a very unfortunate incident as despite a confidence building measure taken by the two sides on November 23 to maintain peace along line of control the Pak army fired without provocation”, a BSF official said in Jammu.

In a statement Inspector General of BSF Sri Ram Awtar said, “Prosenjit Biswas was a brave and sincere border man. The Nation will remain indebted to him for the supreme sacrifice”

The mortal remains of Prosenjit Biswas is expected to reach Dumdum airport late on Friday night and dispatched to his home further in Baliasisha village of Hogolberia during the wee hours of Saturday morning.

A pall of gloom meanwhile descended in his native village.

Prosenjit , Son of Mohan Biswas, 70, an ailing farm labour was the only earning member of the family.

“I was suffering for last 10 tears and cannot work. It was my son who worked as a daily labour and earned living for us while pursuing his education”, Mohan said.

His brother in law Biswajit said, “In 2013 years ago while working as a daily labour with and simultaneously undergoing graduation course at Pannadevi College in Karimpur, Prosenjit got the job. It was a great relief for us all and good days were coming back. But everything is shattered now”.

“Baliasisha village lost a real gem, a real brave heart in courage and heart. As a son, as a friend he was incomparable”, Biswajit added.

Prosenjit’s wife Sumana was crying inconsolably holding the new born Pritam. His mother Nomita fainted repeatedly.

“Prosenjit called me yesterday and said that he would stay for long time at home to spend times with Pritam. He could not see Pritam for long as he had to leave for duty. But, his wish remained unfulfilled forever while my son lost his father. Government will probably give me financial compensation, but it will never be able compensate the loss Pritam has incurred”, Sumana said.
