BSF Seizes Exotic Australian Parakeets Worth Rs.15Lakhs

Krishnanagar, Aug. 27: Border Security Force personnel attached to 9th Battalion posted in Nadia’s Hanshkhali area today seized 43 rare Australian Turquoise Parakeet (a species of color bird) while being smuggled to India from Bangladesh. The birds worth about Rupees 15-lakhsin the international market.

BSF sources claimed that normal price of each of the bird in the international market is about Rs.35000.

The seizure in other term indicates that flourishing rackets those have been operating in smuggling of rare exotic birds between India and Bangladesh.

According to BSF sources over 500 such birds were seized during the past six months at different locations of South Bengal frontier cost over few crores of rupees.

Inspector General of south Bengal frontier of BSF P.S.R Anjaneyulu today in communication stated that acting on a intelligence tip of a team of BSF personnel chased two persons in Ramnagar area of Hanshkhali along the Indo-Bangladesh border. The two men, however, fled leaving three bags which contained 43 birds.

The BSF authorities later hand over the birds to Alipur zoo authorities in Kolkata. A case has meanwhile registered at Hanskhali police station. However, no one could be arrested so far.
