Krishnanagar, Feb. 13: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today accused the centre for destroying the poor people’s cash in the name of demonetization. She also accused the centre for making a conspiracy for robbing bank savings and deposits of the poor people through the Financial Resolution and Deposit Insurance (FRDI) Bill.

Taking jibe at the centre, she said: “Centre’s anti people steps like demonetization and GST have destroyed all business opportunities in the country”.

“They destroyed the income of small businessmen like “pakoda” sellers. They destroyed their money by demonetization and further put burden on then with GST”, she said. “The centre’s objective is to turn the cash into ash”, she alleged.

Reiterating her protest against the proposed FRDI Bill, she said: “There is another conspiracy in the making. This time the centre has trying to bring the FRDI bill. We will oppose it and make the centre to withdraw it. Otherwise, this government at the centre would make people’s cash into ash”.

“They are playing to bring FRDI bill. If this bill is passed savings of the people will no longer be safe in the bank. Since the ‘chit fund’ scams surfaced up, people have changed their habit. They now keep their money largely in banks. But, this act will once again encourage revival of those chit funds as people would be having no option. Where people would go then? What the working class people like farmers, or labors would do?” Mamata asked.

She also raised question about the centre’s new budget proposal of health insurance scheme that asked the state government to bear 40 per cent of the cost. “You never bother to discuss the scheme with us, but now asking us to share the cost with you. You can never for us to bear it. We have own health insurance policy named Swasthyasathi, through which we provide benefits to people”, she said.
