Chapra, Oct. 4:  A homemaker was allegedly shot dead in Nadia’s Chapra on Thursday afternoon by a group of five armed miscreants having allegiance with a faction of Trinamul Congress because her husband had provided shelter to the members of a rival gang after a clash in last month.

Deceased Marzina Biwi (28) was shot four bullets at her home in Hatishala village after the miscreants failed to find out her husband Sahazul Seikh, whom the miscreants had apparently planned to kill.

A senior police officer who rushed to the spot after the incident, meanwhile, claimed that the incident is a fall out of a dispute over land between two neighboring families.

But, party insiders in Chapra ruled out claim of the police. Local party activists rather accused police of inaction despite repeated incidents of violence in the area with the party leadership has been indulging both the factions who unleashed a reign of terror in the area for about past six months since the panchayat poll was announced.

Tahazuddin Seikh, a farmer by profession, categorically said, “I support Trinamul, but not an activist of Trinamul Congress. Some Trinamul workers of a faction took shelter for a day at my house in last month after a clash between two erring rival groups led by Liaquat Seikh and Kausar Seikh. This angered the other group members who today entered my house to kill me. But, when my wife prevented them to enter, they shot at her”.

Marzina was rushed to local Chapra block hospital where doctors declared her dead.

A Trinamul activist said, “The two factions have been fighting for long. The leadership of the party in Hatishala is concentrated among two or three families which created division and other interest groups. A section led by Jamal, Kausar were among the later who turned rebel. The leadership sacked them, but they rejoined the party again during g panchayat poll. Since then fresh trouble began as they were denied tickets in the poll and kept isolated in the party. This led to several clashes in the area as party is now widely divided into two factions. Today’s incident is a fallout if this rivalry.”
