Local sources said Sanjoy and Sangita Sen, a couple from Nokari, took their five months daughter Sanchita for treatment to the pediatric at his clinic in Sen Medical hall on March 26 due to fever. But, since condition of the child deteriorated, the couple again took the child to the doctor on March 29 when he given some new medicines. The couple alleged that after administering the new medicine, their child started blood vomiting. She was taken to Ranaghat sub divisional hospital, which referred her to Jawaharlal Nehru hospital in Kalyani, where the child died on Sunday night.

In an apparent motive to avenge the death, the couple – Sanjoy and Sangita, accompanied with a group of women, all their relatives, on Tuesday arrived at the doctor’s clinic at about 11am, dragged the doctor out on the road, who was visiting patients, and started pouncing him randomly. They also ransacked the clinic.

The doctor tried to pacify them, but the women were aggressive and soon started beating up him dragging him out of the chamber, when some of them ransacked the clinic. I and some traders tried to rescue the doctor, but they threatened us when we called police who rescued him within few minutes”.

Father of the child Sanjoy Sen said, “Doctors at the Ranaghat hospital told us that the initial treatment was wrong. My daughter had actually breathing trouble, which Doctor Roy never told us. But, today he acknowledged that my daughter was suffering from breathing trouble. My daughter was under his treatment since birth. But, we could not imagine that he could act so callous”.

Sipra Sen, grandmother of the child said, “We have pounced the doctor for right reason…We lost our child for him”.

Meanwhile, accused pediatric Partha Sarathi Roy, refused to talk to the reporters. He also did not respond to calls and answered text message sent to his cell phone by this correspondent.
