Kalyani, May 30: In a bid to improve the quality of research works, the Kalyani University today set an instance by introducing biometrics attendance for the course works for the aspiring researchers so that they could devotedly learn the methodology of new generation research works without abstaining their classes.

The initiative has been taken to adopt a disciplined methodology to make the research global standard. Vice chancellor Sankar Kumar Ghosh said: “This is a major step to ensure quality work which would be a role model to Universities”.

To begin with 204 post graduate qualified students who have applied for enrollment for research works for their doctoral degrees will be required to enter their classrooms by 11am for five days a week from June 1 after scanning their fingers on biometrics attendance systems for their six months’ long mandatory ‘course work’.

The students have to register their exit at 4pm similarly.

“This is a part of the comprehensive disciplined system to ensure no loss of time for the aspiring researchers as well as to make them acquainted with the methodology of new generation research works. The world has went ahead and we have to cope up with the new methodologies which will be taught in these non stop classes by experts otherwise the coveted results will not be achieved”, said VC professor Sankar Kumar Ghosh.

“Their attendance is very important for quality understanding of the course work as the aspiring researchers would have a clear vision and plans which would help the Nation in future”Prof Sankar Kumar Ghosh, Vice Chancellor, Kalyani University

The applicants will be allowed to appear in screening test if only they have 75% attendance recorded in the biometrics systems.

University insiders claimed, the new system was required to stop large scale irregularities in attendance and carrying out original researches as well as to stop plagiarism for which the University had to be embarrassed in recent past.

“Their attendance is very important for quality understanding of the course work as the aspiring researchers would have a clear vision and plans for which would help the Nation in future”, VC said.

Vice chancellor Sankar Kumar Ghosh claimed that this biometrics attendance is introduced exclusively for ‘non stop class work’ and not a beginning of a process to bring all teaching, non teaching staff and students under the digital attendance systems as proposed by the UGC or state education minister Partha Chatterjee in recent past.

“This is being done to save time usually lost in manual system. The class during is for one hour so we have to be economic”, VC professor Ghosh said.

To make the applicants acquainted with the biometrics system as well as with the new mandatory regulations for doctoral degree enrollment, Kalyani University today invited 204 applicants to an orientation programme organized its NSS unit.

NSS Coordinator professor Sukhen Biswas said: “To motivate the students we would organize course works in different phases which include general class, research methodology, subject selection, data collection, analysis, reporting to guide, application of results, problems and remedy, presentations. We will take screening test for these students in November and results will be announced by December 15 after which successful applicants will be enrolled for doctoral researches with grants of fellowship”
