MAKAUT Begins Manufacturing Hand Sanitizers For Free Distribution

A group of students, teachers, and officials of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT) began manufacturing sanitizers at its laboratory for free distribution. The University authority took the initiative since the hand sanitizers went out of the market due to huge demand in the wake of the Covid 19 threat. Advised by the University vice-chancellor Professor Saikat Maitra the chemistry department took the initiative and till Thursday evening the team has been able to manufacture 850 units of 100 ml in size. University’s Assistant Registrar Anup Mukherjee said, “There is a crisis of sanitizer in the market. People have been madly looking for it. So we took the initiative to manufacture the sanitizer for free distribution among people and hospitals following the WHO guidelines”. Only a handful of students from outsider state who could not leave the campus joined with teachers and officials to materialize the endeavor, he added. Boiled water, ethyl alcohol, glycerol, hydrogen peroxide have been used to manufacture the sanitizer. “We have planned to manufacture daily 1000 units each from its Haringhata and Salt lake campus daily from Friday until things get normalized”, said Assistant Registrar Professor Mukherjee.
