Man Killed In Chakdaha Over Soirée Land Denial

Chakdaha, Oct. 22: A man was shot dead in Nadia’s Chakdaha on Saturday night by one of the members of a club as he refused allow the the club members to organize a musical soiree on his personal land adjacent to club on the occasion of Kali Puja. The victim also earned the wrath of the club members as he refused to pay Rupees 10000 as Kali puja subscription demanded by them.

Bhabatosh Gyen (32), a betel trader by profession, was shot in the chest by club member Surajit Mistry alias Papai (33), who is also a friend of the victim, following a quarrel on the issue at about 11.30pm on Saturday night inside the ‘New Rising Star Club’ in Sahispur village.

He was rushed to Chakdaha state general hospital where he was declared dead.

Police have arrested Surajit after he surrendered and started a murder case against him on the basis of a complaint lodged by victim’s brother Paritosh Gyen.

Both the victim and the accused were associated with the club associated with the club.  But, he recently developed raising objection against the hefty demand of puja subscriptions by the club.

Police sources said that on Saturday night the club members held a meeting inviting Bhabatosh to decide the venue of a cultural programme scheduled for Sunday evening.

“We wanted to organize the programme on his land which is close to club and the puja pandal. But, Bhabatosh was very rigid and refused to give his nod to allow the programme there which led to a altercation with Surajit”, a member said.

Victim’s brother Paritosh said:”Dada was apparently afraid of losing the land as some of the members had earlier tried to grab the land. In earlier occasions also he refused to allow organizing any such programme. Moreover, he was angry as the members demanded Rupees 10000 as Kali puja subscription from us, which we refused to pay”.
