Friendly Gesture: India Gives 10 Diesel Locomotives To Bangladesh

Gede, July 27: Indian Railways on Monday as a friendly gesture hand over 10 broad gauge locomotives to Bangladesh as ‘gift’ to help it handle the increasing volume of passenger and freight train operations.
The 10 locomotives, worth Rs.60 crores were handed over to Bangladesh at the Gede (India) – Darshana (Bangladesh) interchange point by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Minister of Railways and Commerce & Industry Piyush Goyal.
The handing over of these locomotives fulfills an important commitment made by India during the visit Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to India during October last year, sources said. In keeping with the requirements of Bangladesh Railway, the locomotives have been suitably modified by the Indian side, a spokesperson said.
Later in a twit, the railways’ minister Piyush Goyal said, “It gives me immense pleasure to hand over 10 broad gauge locomotives for the use of Bangladesh Railways…We have been huge strides forward in our respective efforts at achieving development and growth. India and Bangladesh have come a long way in the last few years. Our bilateral relationship today is at its very best. 
In last week, parcel and container train services between India and Bangladesh has been commenced, which is expected to enhance the scope of bilateral trade significantly.
