Badkulla, July 25: Payel Singh, 18, a girl from Nadia’s Badkulla was killed in a road accident when the car she was traveling in had a head-on collision with a motorcycle carrying three riders near Kharipukuria bus stand of Marishda on the Digha-Nandakumar road of East Midnapore district during the early hours of Thursday morning.
The impact of the collision which occurred at about 3 am, was severe, instantly claiming the life of Payel, one of the passengers of the ill-fated car, and all the three riders of the motorcycle. The three motorcyclists were identified as Biswajit Mondal, Subhankar Jana, and Atanu Mondal, who were residents of Ghoraghata village of Contai.
Emergency services were immediately summoned to the scene, with paramedics and police arriving swiftly to assess the situation and provide assistance. Despite their best efforts, the victims succumbed to their injuries on the spot.
Police have begun a probe to determine the exact cause of the accident, including factors such as road conditions, visibility at the time, and any potential involvement of speeding or reckless driving.
Local residents expressed shock and grief over the incident, highlighting the dangers of the Digha-Nandakumar road, particularly during early morning hours when visibility may be reduced and fatigue can affect drivers.
