The Jagadhatri idol of Krishnanagar Bowbazar Barowari Puja Committee being decorated with the gold made ornaments weighing over 10kg on Friday night. The festivities resumed in Nadia again with the Jagadhatri puja. the maximum number of pujas are held in Krishnanagar, where it is traditionally celebrated for two days – Maha Nabami and Dashami, unlike four day festival of Chandannagar. This year, the Maha Nabami celebration would began on Sunday and the immersion will be done on Monday being the Dashami with the ‘Ghat Bisarjan’. This year a total 130 community pujas are being organised in the town by different puja committees. 41 families in the town have also organised puja at their houses which includes the puja organised by the former Royal family of Krishnanagar. Apart from this at least 7 pujas have been this year organised exclusively by women. As per administrative sources, the total number of puja being held in Krishnanagar including those being organised at the outskirt of the town would cross the 200 mark. The Nadia police and the Krishnanagar unit of West Bengal Union of Journalists have released separate puja guide to help the pandal hoppers. Police have also made adequate security arrangements including special care unit for the children. Local news journal ‘Aaj-Kaal-Aagami’ has also released a special number on the occasion of the puja, which also marks its 10th anniversary. Pictures by PRANAB DEBNATH
