Mohanpur, May 19: The prestigious Nature index annual table 2020 rated the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research – Kolkata (IISER-K) as one of the 100 topmost institutions across the globe, for its high quality, scientific research works.
The Nature index ranked the IISER-K 59th in the category of top 100 rising institutions in the world. The IIT Madras, which has been ranked 82, is the only other Indian institution to feature in the category.
Out of the 7 IISERs in the country, IISER Kolkata is at present rated as topmost in the Nature Index rankings.
The rising institutions are identified in terms of research publications in Nature Indexed journals from 2015 to 2019. This reflects the consistent performance of researchers in the institute.
Dean of International Relations and Outreach at IISER-Kolkata Professor Anindita Bhadra said, “This is a quite impressive ranking, which comes as recognition of the high-quality research works being done by our researchers”.
“This metric is considered to be highly competitive and prestigious and is observed closely across the globe to assess the performance of institutions and countries in scientific research”, she added.
The Nature Index is a database of author affiliation information collated from research articles published in an independently selected group of 82 high-quality science journals. The database is compiled by the Nature Research team that provides a close to the real-time proxy of high-quality research output and collaboration at the institutional, national, and regional levels.
“The annual table highlights the institutions and countries which dominated high-quality research in the field of natural sciences during the year 2019 as tracked by Nature Index”, an official of IISER K said.
