Mayapur, July 14: Justice Sambuddha Chakraborty of Calcutta High Court flagged off the Rath Yatra festival of Lord Jagannath at the Iskcon hub in Mayapur on Saturday afternoon. Flagging off the festival, the senior judge said that Lord Jagannath’s Rath Yatra signifies the progress of life and humanity. Nearly one lakh people attended the colorful Rath Yatra festival at the Iskcon head quarter in Mayapur on Saturday, which include devotees from 62 countries. Organised by the International Society for Krishna Consciousnes, the Rathayatra attracted a large number of devotees who pulled the chariots of deities of Lord Jagannath, Balaram and Subhadra on the occasion.
The journey began from Lord Sri Jagannath temple in Rajapur atr about 2.30pm which concluded at the outskirt of Chandradaya temple in Mayapur. The most unique feature of this journey was that it became a symbol of communal and religious harmony. For years it has been a practice in Mayapur that the barriers of caste, creed, community, color fall apart and people turn up in large numbers to get a glance of Lord Sri Jagannath.
The procession of the chariots passed through burial of Chand Kazi, Bamanpukur market, Balaldighi on Bhakti Sidhhanta Saraswati Road, covering a distance of 6km.
