Kolkata, Nov. 8: A court in Kolkata today ordered life imprisonment for Nazrul Islam, a Bangladeshi national, for remaining period of his life for raping an elderly nun during a robbery in Ranaghat’s Convent of Jesus and Mary School on the night of october 13.
Four of five others who were found guilty yesterday was ordered 10 years rigorous imprisonment and one was ordered 7 years imprisonment by Additional District and Sessions Judge Kumkum Sinha.
The court convicted Milan Kumar Sarkar, Ohidul Islam, Mohammad Salim Sheikh and Kholadar Rahaman for robbery and awarded them ten years imprisonment.
Gopal Sarkar,a resident of Habar, who provided them shelter, was held guilty for harbouring the accused, awarded seven-year prison term.
Nazrul was convicted under section 376 (rape) of IPC as well as under Section 120B (criminal conspiracy), 395 (dacoity) along with five others – Gopal Sarkar, Milan Kumar Sarkar, Ohidul Islam, Mohammad Salim Sheikh and Kholadar Rahaman.
