Mohanpur, Dec. 10: In a bid to fascinate students at the higher secondary level to motivate them for pursuing basic science courses and research career in science, a dedicated three day long National science camp commenced today at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Resear-Kolkata (IISER-K) campus in Nadia’s Mohanpur.
The camp titled ‘Vijyoshi 2017′, an initiative of centre’s Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) envisaged and promoted by Science and Technology department aimed to identify students with talent and aptitude for research and to help them to realise their academic potential by encouraging them to take up research careers in science.
Around 900 HS level students studying in different schools from across the country took part in this three days camp that was inaugurated by IISER-Kolkata’s Director professor Sourav Pal.

Inaugurating the camp Professor Pal said: “During these three days we will try to fire up the innovative minds of the students. Our objective is to ensure growth of best scientific for research and development in the counrty”.
Senior scientists like S.M.Chitre, A.S.Kiran Kumar, Subir Sachdev, N.Sathyamurthy, James Jackson, Anirban Bandopadhyay, Debiprosad Duari, Debashis Goswami would deliver basic lessons on different avenues of science like mathematics, physics, chemistry, atomic energy, space, geophysics, Nano technology, statistics and others.
Professor S.M Chitre of department of atomic said: “Many students have a very curious and resourceful mind, but their curriculum in school could not quench their thirst. Moreover, there is lack of scope of inter discipline collaborative learning and coordination. In this camp, students will get the idea what the ideal way to go for in future. We are hopeful that the camp will help them to identify their ways in future and thus come up to help the country with new researches and innovations”.
Pratyush Saha, a class XII student from Uttar Pradesh’s Renukoot who joined the camp said: “I want to study astro physics at graduation level. But, at HS level school, there is very little scope to get any idea on the subject. I joined the camp to satisfy my curiosity on it”.
The students who joined the camp were selected through a national level aptitude test at class XI. Based on the performance in the aptitude test, short-listed students are called for an interview which is the final stage of the selection procedure. Exceptionally talented students will be given fellowship.
