BSF Inspector Accused Of Raping Lady Constable Arrested

Krishnaganj, Feb. 23: Kitab Sing, 60, a BSF Inspector attached to the 54-Battalion and posted in Nadia’s Tungi’s border outpost was arrested on Wednesday night allegedly for raping a 34-year-old lady constable. The alleged rape occurred on the night of February 18 (Saturday). The accused officer had summoned the on-duty lady constable in connection with some work and raped her inside the border outpost. 

Police sources said that a police team led by the DSP (HQ) of Krishnanagar Police district and the officer in charge of Krishnaganj police station visited the BSF’s Seemanagar sector camp on Wednesday night and arrested the accused officer. He has been produced before a court in Krishnanagar on Thursday morning. Police have appealed for his custody for interrogation, an officer said.

Meanwhile, sleuths claimed that the circumstantial evidence and medical examination of the woman confirmed the rape.

On Wednesday morning, the victim constable was produced before a magistrate in Krishnanagar where she recorded her statement.

Earlier on Tuesday, the victim, a resident of the Hooghly district was taken for a medical examination at SSKM Hospital in Kolkata.  However, as per the protocol the hospital authorities advised her to lodge a police complaint first. The victim accordingly lodged a ‘Zero FIR’ at the Bhawanipur police station. The BSF authorities, as an immediate measure – suspended the accused officer while ordering a departmental probe by setting up a high-power inquiry committee.

Police said that the accused officer has been arrested on the basis of the ‘Zero FIR’ lodged by the victim. The Zero FIR was further forwarded to the Krishnaganj police station, the actual jurisdiction of the alleged crime, on Tuesday night.
