Sources in ACB said that a trap was laid for the accused sub inspector and his aide primary school teacher Subhasish De on the basis of a complaint lodged on Thursday by Biswajit Ghosh, manager Kamalpur Suntra Cooperative Agricultural Development bank in Chakdah town.
Police said, on August 12 evening last year, four masked gunmen entered Kamalpur Suntra Cooperative Agricultural Development Bank and robbed about Rupees 23 lakhs tying two employees of the bank with rope. Police later arrested two persons in connection with the robbery who are now under jail custody. Accused sub inspector Pal was the investigating officer of the case.
But, during investigation early this month SI Pal had allegedly started blackmailing Manager Biswajit Ghosh claiming that one of the arrested persons in the robbery case has named him as one of the conspirators in the robber. Pal sought money from Ghosh as protection fee else he would implicate him. Ghosh finding no way lodged complaint with ACB which laid the trap and arrested the duo on Friday evening.
