Tehatta, July 10: Taking his nephew rinsing mouth and spitting water as an insult to him, a former Border Security Force constable today hacked his 22 year old nephew to death with a chopper in broad daylight in Tehatta’s Baghakhali. The accused dragged out the youth of a house where he took shelter and hacked him at random killing him on the spot.
Victim Pijush Biswas (22), who works as a labor at a hatchery earned multiple fatal injuries all over his bodies including head and chest. The assassin Gopal Biswas (43), who initially managed to flee after the gory act eluding the local villagers, however, was arrested later in the evening from a hideout in Tehatta.
He will be produced before the additional chief judicial magistrate’s court in Tehatta on Tuesday morning.
The deceased youth got married in last month.
Police have started a murder case against Gopal on the basis of a complaint lodged by victim’s father Hiralal Biswas.
Investigating officials said the murder is fallout of a dispute over sharing of paternal properties between the accused Gopal Biswas and his elder brother Hiralal Biswas.
During May this year Gopal had also attacked Hiralal with a sharp weapon injuring him critically. Hiralal was admitted to hospital for over two weeks. Nevertheless, most surprisingly the police did not take any action against Gopal despite a complaint of attempt to murder was lodged at the Tehatta police station.
Angry villagers today kept the police gheraoed for about two hours accusing it of inaction when went to recover the body. The locals allowed the police to take the body only after Sub divisional police officer Kartick Sarkar assured to arrest Gopal within 48hours.
“My son was rinsing mouth after coming home from hatchery where he worked overnight. He was spitting water after rinsing mouth as one used to do in the morning, which Gopal took as an insult to him. He first beaten up him with a stick and then suddenly started stabbing him with a big chopper” – Hiralal Biswas, Father of Victim
Earlier the bizarre incident occurred at about 5.30am when Pijush was washing his mouth after returning home from hatchery.
Accused Gopal suddenly attacked Pijush with a stick first, but when prevented he attacked again with a chopper and stared hacking him accusing of insulting him.
Victim’s father Hiralal said: “My son was rinsing mouth after coming home from hatchery where he worked overnight. He was spitting water after rinsing mouth, which Gopal took as an insult to him. He first beaten up him with a stick and then suddenly started hacking him with a big chopper”.
Local sources said Pijush in a bid to escape the attack took shelter at the house of a neighboring woman. The woman Pushpa Mandal, locked the doors from inside to save Pijush. But Gopal broke open the door and drag out Pijush of the house and hacked him until he died.
A case has been registered against Gopal and Police have collected FSL samples as well as his finger prints. Villages said Gopal was recently sacked from his job for indiscipline.
Neighbor Pushpa Mondal said: “If police had taken action against Gopal for the previous attack, Pijush’s life could have been saved. Police never bothered to take action against him and misled the complainant”.
Superintendent of police, Nadia Sheesh Ram Jhajharia said: “I have no idea if there was any previous complaint pending against the accused. I will check the fact and question the concerned officials that why no action was taken against that complaint, if it was at all found to be true. Meanwhile, we have started a case against the accused and examining all possible aspects behind the murder”
Sources at the police station said, police did not at all treated the earlier complaint lodged by Hiralal as an FIR and washed its hands by just making a general diary entry.
