Krishnangar, May 25: An Automatic Thermal Screening Gate (ATSG) designed and conceptualized by Nilabhra Guha, a student of class IX of Krishnagar Public School (KPS) has been chosen as the 8th best entry to the ‘Student Innovation Challenge 2020’  in last week.

The Innovation Challenge is a National level competition on innovative scientific ideas among students organized by Smartcircuits Innovation Pvt. Ltd in association with the Young Scientists Journal. It aims to foster innovative thinking among students to recognize and empower their potential.

The themes for the 2020 Innovation Challenge were space technology, Covid 19 solutions, and New Innovation.

Around 8000 students across the country shared their innovative ideas and designs of devices that can change a life. Nilabhra is the only student from Bengal to feature in the top 10.

Nilabhra’s ATSG that won the heart of the juries is a device that once installed at the entry point of a building like shopping malls can automatically dispense hand sanitizer and examine body temperate of a person when he would go through it.

The thermal screening device attached to it will allow the entry inside if the result comes out to be safe. The device will at the same time record the number of entries of persons inside the building and can block entry once the optimum number is reached. It will further allow entry only when a person from inside makes an exit.

Principal of the Krishnagar Public School Sankar Prasad Dutta said, “The device conceptualized by Nilabhra is based on a very simple mechanism which is ideal for ensuring safe distance”.

“It is a proud moment for us as Nilabhra was the only student from West Bengal to feature in Top 10”, the Krishnagar Public School Principal added.

Speaking about his concept, Nilabhra said, “My aim was to develop a device that can function automatically to restrict the entry of people in malls and other closed-door installations through temperature screening ensuring safe distance protocol. In the Covid situation safe distancing has become a mandatory precautionary measure to fight the disease. So there will be a demand for such a device in the coming days…”.
