Pairadanga, June 18: A 30 year old decorator worker who was injured being hit by a speeding train lay unattended for about one hour on busy Pairadanga railway station today as the local railway officials did not bother to take him to hospital for treatment.

The injured youth eventually died on the spot as the station master and preferred to wait for the GRP personnel to reach the station from Ranaghat and do the needful. But, the youth succumbed to his injuries before the GRP team arrived from Ranaghat.

The bizarre incident occurred at about 11.45am today.

The victim identified as Manik Madhu was hit by a Lalgola bound fast train when he was walking along the edge of the platform No. 1.

Eyewitness claimed that like usual practice of many people live in the adjacent areas of the platform, Manik was walking on the platform for going to market.

“He was carelessly walking along the edge of the platform when the train hit him. The impact of the hit was very fatal. But, his life could be saved if he was taken to a hospital. He lay unattended for about an hour and eventually died”, an eye witness said.

A rail official on anonymity, however, claimed that the youth died instantly on the spot.

“There was no question of taking the injured youth to the hospital as he died instantly on the spot. We rushed to the hearing about the incident and found his lifeless body in a pool of blood. We then as per our provisions informed the GRP in Ranaghat who later took away the body for postmortem”.

The GRP officials also rubbished the allegation that they arrived late at the spot. “We reached there as fastest as possible after appraised about the incident”, a GRP officer said.
