Krishnanagar, Oct. 26: Senior journalist Dipankar Bhattacharya, working as a Nadia district correspondent with Bengali daily ‘Dainik Sambad”, passed away on Thursday afternoon at Saktinagar district hospital in Krishnanagar. He was 52 and is survived by his wife and a daughter. His last rites were done late in the evening at Nabadweep funeral ghat on the bank of river Bhagirathi.
Dipankar had collapsed in his house in Nabadweep town early in the afternoon and rushed to Nabadweep state general hospital, from where doctors transferred him to Krishnanagar as his condition turned critical by the time. On arrival at Saktinagar District Hospital, he was put to critical care unit, but succumbed barely within an hour due to massive cardiac arrest.
An affable person with versatile talents, Dipankar used to
mingle with journalists of all age groups with equal ease. He is known for his sense of camaraderie and was always ready to help others. Apart from a journalist, Dipankar was a good poet and an actor. Theatre was his passion and he formed a theatre group named ‘Adda’ with some of his friends in Nabadweep.
News men attached to different media houses today expressed deep condolence for sudden demise of Dipankar. A large number of media persons today gathered at the Saktinagar district hospital and paid their tributes to the departed journalist with broken hearts.
