Kalyani, May 14: Amidst despair with the number of Covid cases increasing in the district, good news arrived from Kalyani when a woman was discharged after recovery from the SNR Carnival hospital on Thursday afternoon. The woman was offered a grand farewell by the hospital staff and the officials of the Nadia district administration to mark her release from the hospital.
The woman in her early 40s, a resident of Naihati was admitted last month after she was tested Covid positive. Authorities of the SNR Carnival hospital, which is only dedicated Covid care hospital in the district, decided to discharge her after two repeated Covid tests done early this week found her negative.
On Thursday to mark her discharge a memorable one, sub-divisional officer of Kalyani Dhiman Barui rushed to the hospital along with other officials of district health administration. The officials, doctors and nursing staff of the hospital were seen applauding the woman when the SDO presented her with a bouquet of flowers. The hospital authority also offered her sweets.
“It is a great moment. All of us are happy today with her recovery. We respect her fighting spirit. She has most probably overcome a tough phase in her life in isolation at the hospital. This requires a strong mental set up to overcome the despair and a fear of possible death as well,” said a doctor at the SNR Carnival hospital. “But she has shown impeccable courage to fight the disease”, the doctor added.
The patient, who looked visibly relieved, broke down in tears and thanked everybody. She also sang a few lines of an inspirational song. “I am grateful to all the doctors, nurses, and the officials of the Nadia administration who took so much care of me. They never allowed me to fee mentally week and inspired me to fight the disease strongly”.
Before boarding a vehicle on the way home, she conveyed a message for all. “Prevention is always better than care. So I appeal all to be careful enough about taking precautions to fight the disease. Precaution is the only way that can save us. We should make the facial mask a compulsory in our daily life. We must avoid close contact with people, maintain safe physical distance, avoid the crowd and sanitize hands, and maintain good health habits to save our own life, as well as of our family members and those living around us. It is a matter of social responsibility”, she said.
