Kalyani, Jan. 1: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences-Kalyani (AIIMS), which is expected to launch outpatients service this month, has joined Mohanpur based Indian Institute Science Education and Research-Calcutta (IISER) for interdisciplinary research activities. An IISER official said since medical studies are no more just limited to medicine and allied studies, the IISER would collaborate with AIIMS for research in the fields like molecular biology, artificial intelligence to explore more avenues for sake of the society. This was announced by both the authorities in Kalyani while welcoming the new batch of MBBS students at AIIMS on Friday. The AIIMS-Kalyani in this academic session has increased the capacity of MBBS students from 50 to 125. All the 125 students of the new batch (2nd of AIIMS Kalyani) were present at the AIIMS auditorium built inside its campus in Kalyani’s Basantapur, who were welcomed by the Executive Director Ramji Singh. Professor Chitra Sarkar, President of AIIMS-Kalyani was present at the occasion as the Chief Guest along with Professor Prasanta K Panigrahi, Dean of IISER-Kolkata, and Professor Rajendra Pandey Vice-Chancellor of West Bengal University of Health Sciences as special guests. A brief colorful cultural program was arranged by faculty members, residents and MBBS students after the inaugural ceremony.
