Boy Beaten To Death On Theft Suspicion In Chakdaha

Chakdaha, Feb. 10: A 16-year boy was allegedly beaten to death in Nadia’s Chakdaha on Wednesday on the suspicion of stealing chicken from poultry located in a house where his elder brother stays as a tenant.

Police have begun a murder case on the basis of a complaint that claimed victim Rahul Singh, a resident of the Khos Bash Mahalla (KBM) area in the town, was tortured for several hours by the poultry owner inside a room tying his hands and legs with ropes.

The neighbors found the boy in an unconscious state at the house of the accused poultry owner Rupchand Burman (alias Anil) and rushed him to Chakdaha State General Hospital, where an attending doctor declared him brought dead. The deceased boy, a school dropout, was the son of a tricycle trolly van paddler.

The bizarre incident occurred in 1-Thakur Colony under Ward-10 of the town.

Police have so far could arrest none of the four accused named in the FIR that includes Rupchand (Anil) his wife Pratima, son Rudra and one Arnab Sarkar, a resident of KBM who is a close associate of the prime accused. “All the accused persons in the case have fled since the demise of the boy. We are hopeful to track them out soon”, an officer of Ranaghat police district administration said.

According to police and local sources on Tuesday night some chickens went missing from the poultry of Rupchand, who also works as a delivery man of an LPG retailer. Rupchand blamed suspected Rahul behind the theft and also began to blame him for it. Rahul used to visit Rupchand’s house since his elder brother Rohit stays there on rent. Later he summoned the boy to his room on the first floor and began torturing him tying him with ropes.

“Rupchand and his family members ruthlessly beat up my brother on mere suspicion and they also tortured him using a screwdriver. On the way to the hospital my brother told me how the entire family tortured him”, the victim’s elder brother Rohit Singh said.

The incident angered the local residents who vandalized the residence of Rupchand led to deploying a police posting at the spot.

Additional Superintendent of Police, Ranaghat PD Souvanik Mukhopadhyay said, “There are serious allegations of tortures against the accused persons. Considering the magnitude of the allegations, we to ascertain the nature of injures that caused the death, have constituted a three-member team of doctors who conducted the autopsy in presence of a family member. The entire autopsy was video graphed for sake of the investigation”

We are waiting for the autopsy report and further necessary action will be initiated on the basis of its outcome”, Additional SP said.
