Krishnaganj, April 4: BSF authorities in a humanitarian gesture have helped two Bangladeshi women to have a last glimpse of their demised mother who stayed in Matiyari village of Nadia’s Banpur close to the Indo-Bangladesh border.
Responding to an appeal for “Antim Darshan” made by the son of the deceased woman, BSF authorities of 54-Battalion made contact with their counterparts – Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB), who also come up with a positive gesture and arranged to bring the two women to the zero point to enable them to pay their final tributes to their mother.
Sources in BSF’s South Bengal Frontier in Calcutta said that Rohton Biwi, of Matiyari-Banpur village, died on Sunday afternoon. Later her son Sukur Mondal urged the BSF officials of 54-Battalion to help him so that her two sisters could be brought in and allowed to have the last look at their mother and pay tribute as well.
BSF South Bengal Frontier’s spokesperson and DIG (G) S.S.Guleria said, “It was a quite unusual appeal. So our officials immediately made contact with the BGB authorities for cooperation who also responded well and allowed the two women to pay their tributes at a point close to the border”.
Speaking to NfN Sukur Mondal said, “Maa was ill for a long time and died on Sunday. She had wished to see her two daughters who were married in Bangladesh. Hearing the news of death from me, the two sisters become restless and wished to have a last look at the mother before the last rites. But the border between the two countries became the physical barrier in front of them. They over the phone insisted I talk to the BSF authorities so that they can allow them to pay tribute making an exception for a few minutes. So I appealed to the Commanding officer of the 54-Battalion at its Banpur border outpost”.
BSF authorities claimed that responding to the appeal with much alacrity, they talked to the BGB officials who agreed to help and also arranged to bring two daughters to the international border.
Accordingly, elder daughter Momina Mandal, 48, was brought in from her home located around 2 km away from birder in a Madhabkhali village under Jibannagar police station of Chuadanga district of Bangladesh.
On the other hand demised woman’s younger daughter Khatuna Biwi, 42, was also brought in close to the border, from around 6 km away from her home located in Hariharnagar village of Chuadanga.
The two women paid had their “Antim Darshan” and paid their respect standing close to the border in presence of both BSF and BGB officials.
Obliged by the gesture of both BSF and BGB, Sukur Mondal expressed his heartfelt gratitude. “We are grateful to both the authorities…Having a glimpse of mother would not have been possible without such support of the BSF and BGB”, he said.
BSF SBF’s DIG S.S Guleria said, “We always try our best to take care of social values and human emotions. Sunday’s incident was such an occasion. We are happy that the BGB authorities responded in a positive manner and our mutual understanding helped the two women to pay their final tributes to their mother”.
