Tehatta/Kolkata, March 27: Five persons from Nadia’s Tehatta were tested Covid 19 positive on Friday night taking the total number of affected persons in Bengal to 15.
All five persons including a nine months girl child are members of the same family, who now stay in Uttarakhand and Delhi came in contact with a relative who has recently travelled to London and tested Covid 19 positive in New Delhi in last week.
The other affected persons include two women aged 45 and 27 as well as two boys aged 11 and 6. “All the persons who are tested positive today with the deadly viral infection belong to a close group of siblings and relatives”, said an officer of the state health department om Kolkata.
Sources said, the 27 year’s woman who works in Uttarakhand, fell ill with suspected symptoms on March 16 and taken to Dr. R.M Lohia hospital. However, she allegedly escaped from the hospital and boarded the Sealdah bound Rajdhani Express on March 19 to return home with other members of the family in Barnia village of Tehatta to attend a bereavement programme of a relative scheduled for March 27.
After reaching home on March 20, the young woman’s nine-month-old child fell ill. A medical team of the district administration knowing about their arrival from outside examined all the 13 members of the family and put them all under quarantine at the Karmateertha building in Tehatta town since symptoms of deadly infection became evident in them.
Sub Divisional Officer of Tehatta Aneesh Dasgupta said, “We came to know that the family members had come in contact with a person who recently travelled London and admitted to a hospital in New Delhi. It appears that the members of the Tehatta based family were infected through him”.
Sources in the district administration said the efforts were made for medical screening of all the persons with whom these five persons came in contact during their journey from New Delhi to Barnia village.
Railway authorities have been approached to identify the co-passengers who travelled with them on the Sealdah bound Rajdhani Express on March 19-20 as well as on the Lalgola bound passenger train from Seladah on March 20, an officer added.
