Nadia Slaughterhouse Worker Arrested for Mutilating Genitalia of Stray Dog During Mating

TAHERPUR, Sept. 9: Police arrested a 53-year-old slaughterhouse worker early Wednesday for allegedly attacking a stray dog during mating with a meat-cutting dagger and severing part of its genitalia near the Taherpur fish market on Tuesday afternoon.

The accused, Manik Das, a resident of B Block in Taherpur town, was apprehended at his home following a brief period in hiding. He was produced before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court in Ranaghat on Wednesday and remanded in police custody for 7 days.

Authorities booked Das under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) pertaining to the maiming and torture of animals, alongside Section 11(1) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.

According to police and eyewitnesses, the attack occurred around 2:00 PM on Tuesday while the dog was mating on a public road. Investigators allege Das approached the animal with a sharp weapon, inflicted severe injuries, and fled the scene after brandishing the dagger to intimidate nearby residents who attempted to intervene.

Responding police personnel rescued the injured animal and transferred it to a state-run veterinary facility in Habibpur, near Ranaghat. Veterinary officials confirmed the dog was admitted in critical condition and remains under active treatment.
