Fresh Covid Positive Patient Detected In Nadia

Kolkata/Bhimpur, May 7: A 32 years old mason from Gantra village in Nadia’s Bhimpur was tested Covid positive while undergoing treatment at the RG Urology & Laparoscopy Hospital in Kolkata on Thursday.

Sources in Nadia district administration said that the man admitted to the hospital for kidney-related troubles was found positive during rapid testing. He was immediately shifted to a Covid hospital as per the directive of the state government.

With this fresh detection, Nadia till Thursday evening recorded 8 Covid positive patients apart from 2 other admitted to Kalyani based SNR Carnival Covid hospital, who are residents of North 24 Parganas. Out of the 8 positive cases, 7 patients have already been recuperated.

Acting on the information communicated by the state health department, a team of Nadia district administration, visited the Gantra village late on Thursday evening and sent 15 persons for quarantine that includes the patient’s five family members apart from his other close contacts in the neighborhood. The driver of the vehicle in which he was taken to the private hospital to Kolkata has also been identified and quarantined. An officer of the district administration said, “Prior to sending them to Ruipukur based quarantine centre, all the 15 persons were taken to Glocal Hospital in Krishnagar where their swab samples were collected for Covid test”. The swab samples were later sent for tests to the Murshidabad Medical College & Hospital in Berhampore. “The reports of the tests are expected to reach Krishnagar on Saturday morning”, an officer of the district administration said.

The Gantra village, meanwhile, has been made a containment zone to avoid spreading the virus further. The house of the patient will also be sanitized on Friday. Family sources said the patient last week admitted to the Kolkata based hospital for surgery to remove a kidney stone. However, since he developed a temperature, the hospital authority conducted a rapid Covid test which proved him to be positive.

After interrogating the patients and his family members, the state health officials did not find any outside travel history. The officials suspect that the mason most likely contracted to the disease from the hospital after his admission there.
