Kalyani College Of Medicine Worker Arrested For Molesting Student

Kalyani, Aug 14: In a disturbing development, a contractual worker at the College of Medicine & JNM Hospital in Kalyani has been arrested for allegedly molesting a paramedical student, adding fuel to the ongoing outrage sparked by the RG Kar Hospital rape and murder case.

According to police reports, the accused, Ahin Mondal, 35, a lab technologist, was taken into custody following a complaint lodged by a second-year microbiology student. The student alleged that Mondal had been harassing her for a long with indecent gestures, which she had previously protested against.

The incident reportedly occurred on August 9, when she was working at a laboratory in the college.

“His indecent gestures crossed all limits on the day. He touched my body with ugly intentions putting me in an embarrassing situation. It compelled me to lodge formal complaint…”, said the girl.

Following the incident, the student filed formal complaints with the Principal of the College of Medicine & JNM Hospital and the Head of the Microbiology Department.

Sources within the college confirmed that the Principal had formed a three-member inquiry committee to investigate the matter. However, before the inquiry could be completed, the student approached the police on Tuesday, leading to Mondal’s immediate arrest.

An officer from the Ranaghat Police District stated, “We arrested the accused without delay. He has been placed in police custody as ordered by the court for further investigation.”
