Kalyani, June 21: Around 350 students today took part in a yoga show organised by Kalyani University at its sports ground on the occasion of World Yoga Day. The event was jointly organised university’s department of physical education, department of environmental science and the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit.
Inaugurating the event vice chancellor professor Sankar Kumar Ghosh said: “Practising yoga has become very important as it keeps our physical and mental health well”.
During the one hour long show, the students dressed in white T shirt presented different yoga postures apart from stretching, breathing exercises and exercised meditation.
NSS coordinator professor Sukhen Biswas also spoke on the occasion. “The NSS units of all the affiliated colleges under Kalyani University individually organised yoga shows at their respective campuses today”, said Professor Biswas.
University’s Yoga instructor Pratap Santra said, “The students who participated in today’s yoga show regularly practice at the University run Yoga camp.”
The World Yoga Day is being celebrated on June 21 across the globe since the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) adopted a unanimous resolution announcing the day on December 11, 2014 honouring a request of Indian prime minister Narendra Modi.
