Make Nursing Homes As Institutes Of Humanity & Seva: Mamata

Krisnanagar, May 5: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today advised private hospitals and nursing home owners in Nadia to make their establishments as institution of humanity and ‘Seva’.

She warned the owners of nursing homes and private hospital to refrain from harassing patients and not to just work for money, otherwise the state Government would be compelled to take action as per the newly implemented West Bengal Clinical Establishments (Registration, Regulation and Transparency), Act implemented from March 27, this year.

“I don’t want to see the private hospitals and nursing homes as jungles of concrete, rather as institution of humanity and Seva”, she told the 75 owners of private hospitals and nursing homes in Nadia.

Chief Minister advised them to go through the provisions of the act and perform accordingly.

State health secretary appraising the nursing home owners said: “We have sent the copy of the act to all DM offices. You should all know provisions of the act and know about the mandatory services to be provided to the patients. The core concept of the act is service first, payment layer. In no case, you should avoid patients. In case of emergencies like accidents, you should never refuse a patient. Complaints and grievances may be lodged at the regulatory commission through online”.

Chief Minister later lashed on Nadia’s Chief medical officer of health, Tapas Roy for delay in finalizing the investigation report into the alleged negligence in treatment of two women by Ranaghat based Avenue Nursing home authority, who eventually died in JNM Hospital in Kalyani later.

District magistrate Submit Gupta later assured chief minister of finalizing the report within 7 days without fail.
