Krishnanagar, May 18: Nadia recorded a spike in the number of Covid patients since at least seven persons were tested positive during the past two days. With the new inclusions, the total number of Covid positive patients raised to 25 till Monday evening.
However, out of the 26 positive cases, only 13 patients are at present admitted to the Kalyani based dedicated Covid care hospital – SNR Carnival Hospital. The remaining persons have been recuperated and discharged from Covid hospital.
The latest inclusion to the list of positive patients is a homemaker from Nityanandapur village under Bablari panchayat in Nabadwip. The woman, wife of a hotel worker returned on May 18 from Maharashtra along with her husband and two daughters. Her swab samples tested Covid positive on Monday, raising the total positive cases to 26. However, her husband and two daughters were tested negative. Woman’s inlaws and two relatives in the neighborhood were quarantined.
Earlier on Saturday six persons from Ranaghat-2 block were tested positive carrying Coronavirus. This includes one person from Paschim Shimulia village and four from Dakshin Khaspur under Baidyapur-I gram panchayat. The remaining one patient was from Shymanagar gram panchayat under the same block.
An officer in the district health system said that all the six persons are migrant laborers who recently returned home from Maharashtra. They were under quarantine in two separate places in Hijuli and in Ranaghat.
On Thursday their swab samples were collected for the Covid 19 test. The report delivered on Saturday morning confirmed them as Covid positive. Ranaghat-II Block development officer Khokon Burma said, “We have already sealed the residential areas of the six persons restricting movement and also undertaken a disinfection drive there. At the same time, a regular fever survey has been undertaken to monitor the condition of the persons living in the areas”.
Meanwhile, two more persons that include a woman was tested Covid positive in Santipur. Sources in the district administration said, the woman who was tested positive is migrant labor and returned home in Hemayatpur village under Haripur gram panchayat on May 17 from Maharashtra along with her husband. The couple was under quarantine in Jagulia initially and later sent for home quarantine on May 21. A day later their swab samples were sent for Covid test when the woman was detected positive.
Nadia District Magistrate Vibhu Goel said, “We have taken all possible precautionary measures as per the protocol to contain the further outbreak. The residential area of the couple has also been barricaded as a containment zone where the movement of the people will be restricted”.
As per the report of the district health administration total number suspected Covid cases in Nadia as on May 25 are1786, the number of swab samples collected is 5571, and the number of confirmed Covid positive cases are 25.
