WBCS Officer In Charge Of EVM Cell Of Nadia Election Office Goes Missing

Krishnanagar, April 19: A young WBCS officer, who was working as the nodal officer of EVM cell at the Nadia district election establishment in Krishnanagar, went missing under mysterious circumstances on Thursday afternoon.

Police have started a probe on the basis of a missing diary lodged by his wife, however, the officer identified as Arnab Roy (30), a resident of Burnpur of West Burdwan district, could not be traced out till Friday night while his phones were found switched off. 

Roy, originally posted as the nodal officer at Nadia administration’s NREGA cell at district magistrate’s office in Krishnagar, was last seen at the district election cell which is presently functioning from BPC Institute of Technology in the town.

On late Thursday night Roy’s wife Anisha Jash, a WBCS officer on probationary period posted at DM’s office, lodged a missing diary at Krishnagar police station.

The Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal has sought a report on the matter from the Nadia District Magistrate and DEO Sumit Gupta. Gupta said, “Investigation has begun…We are trying our best to find out him”.

Police sources said that Roy’s cell phones were last located in Santipur. Town. Police after scanning CCTV footage has spotted him in two places in Santipur town. However, the footage did not come as big help.

Sources in district administration said, Roy’s handling of the EVM cell caused embarrassment to the senior officer of the election cell. An officer on anonymity said, “Roy’s performance was not satisfactory.He was on a number of occasions was cautioned for his failure to meet the deadline on several issues, which eventually led to his removal from the charge”.

On Thursday, Roy was seen walking out of the institute campus at about 1pm while speaking over phone. Meanwhile, his colleagues claimed that Roy has a history of disappearance under pressure in past. “During his initial posting as BDO Roy disappeared and returned after some days”.

However, his wife Anisha refuted to acknowledge that Roy was suffering from any ‘mental depression’. In a facebook post, Anisha, who is also a WBCS officer and posted in Krishnagar said, “He was not suffering from any kind of depression and we have a very healthy and hearty relation..I do not want anything except my husband right now and I shall go to the last extent to hind him”.
