Barnia, March 19: Ashutosh Biswas (54), a court clerk attached to the additional judicial magistrate’s court in Nabadweep was shot dead  at home by two unidentified miscreants at his home in Barnia area of Palashipara on Tuesday night. The bizarre incident occurred at about 9pm, a little after Biswas returned home from a local market.

Family sources said, two miscreants on a motorcycle arrived at home and entered Biswas’s home and demanded Rupees five lakhs from him. “They were demanding the money from him instantly. It is not clear why they were demanding so. But, there was an altercation when I heard two gun shots. I saw the two men escaped fast. I rushed inside and found him lying in a pool of bloos”, a family member said.

The neighbors took Biswas to Bethuadahari block hospital, where the attending doctors declared him dead. Hospital sources said, at least two bullet spots were found on the body of the victim. “The deceased was shot at from close range to ensure death. One bullet had shot below his right ear which perched her brain while the other was shot a little above of his shoulder, which were fatal enough to kill him on the spot”, a visiting doctor said.

A large team led by additional superintendent of Police (Rural) rushed to the spot. However, no person could so far be arrested so far in connection with the murder. Police officials are still in dark about the motive behind the murder. However, local residents claimed that the death is a fall out of Biswas’s alleged involvement with a fake job network.

“He had allegedly siphoned money from a number of people whom he assured good job which, however, never, materialized. This might be one of the possible reasons behind his death”, an officer said.
