Palashipara, Feb. 16: The body of slain CRPF jawan Sudip Biswas arrived late on Saturday evening in Hanspukuria village of Palashipara after an inordinate delay of about 12 hours since it was originally scheduled. Nevertheless, a crowd of about five thousand villagers waited with impeccable patience since the morning to pay last tributes to to the slain jawan.
The young constable attached to 98 Battalion of CRPF had died in terrorist attack in Kashmir’s Pulmawa on Thursday when suicide a bomber driving a car packed with explosives rammed a bus carrying the personnel on Jammu Srinagar highway in which he was travelling with other jawans.
CRPF sources claimed that it was the fate that led Sudip’s death. Sudip was scheduled to reach Srinagar in last week, but he had to stay back in Jammu to take care of one of his colleagues who fell ill.

One of his Colleagues said over phone from Kashmir, “Our superiors had advised Sudip to take care of the ill colleague and to move later with the convoy. So on Thursday, Sudip was ordered to move. But, as his battalion already proceeded earlier in last week, Sudip had to move with 54-Battalion and had also boarded its vehicle. The fate struck as the vehicle was hit by the explosive packed terrorist vehicle”. Family members of Sudip also came to know about this tragic truth.
Sudip’s sister Jumpa said, “It is the fate ultimately that killed my brother. It could be someone else either in place of brother. But, the terror attack could not possibly be avoided. Our soldiers are brave, but we lament the way they died. We would not possibly cry had they martyred in war”.
The villagers who started gathering at a community ground after hearing of his death near residence of Sudip, waited with patience despite it was raining with chilling wind until a team of CRPF’s-167battalion arrived there at about 9pm carrying the mortal remains of the deceased constable packed in a coffin.
CRPF’s Deputy Inspector General V.K.Singh paid floral tribute to Sudip followed by Nadia police superintendent Rupesh Kumar. On behalf of the state government, minister Ratna Ghosh, Ujjwal Biswas, Nadia zilla parishad chief Rikta Kundu paid their tributes amidst slogans..’Vande Mataram…Sudip Biswas amar rahey”.
At about 10pm the mortal remains were taken to Sudip’s home. Sudip’s parents Sannyashi and Mamata broke down in tears. His sister Jhumpa was crying inconsolably holding the coffin. Sudip’s childhood friends like Pralay Biswas, Saikat Biswas stood silently before the body as people in the villagers were paying floral tributes.
Pralay said, “Sudip was a real brave heart in the village. He was a day labour. His father is ill for long. So he used to work as farm labour to earn living for the ailing parents while simultaneously pursing his study. He had immense respect for his parents and planned to gift the new home to them. But, the death shattered everything”.
The mortal remains of Sudip were lately left his home from Telipara-Hanspukuria village for the funeral ghat in Ramnagar of Plassey at around 11pm. Thousands of people had also gathered on either side of the road to pay him last respect with flowers and Indian tricolor. On behalf of the CRPF, DIG V.K.Singh handed over a cash amount of Rupees fifty thousand to Sudip’s mother to meet the expenses of the last rites of the slain jawan from the force’s welfare fund.
