Krishnanagar, Aug. 29: Investigators on Friday revealed a disturbing new dimension to the Ishita Mullik murder case, confirming that fugitive killer Deshraj Singh had been posting suggestive texts and pictures hinting at a deadly “final settlement” before he shot his classmate-turned-lover dead in Krishnanagar on August 25.
Police now believe the murder was meticulously planned and a foregone conclusion for Deshraj, a belief substantiated by photographs traced from his social media account. One chilling image shows Deshraj with a pistol tucked into his waistband, accompanied by the caption: “Dead body soon.” This discovery strongly affirms the police’s conclusion that the crime was premeditated and not an impulsive act.
The Premeditated Plot

According to officers, Deshraj’s planning went beyond social media posts. He also repeatedly urged mutual friends to convey a threatening message to Ishita, warning her of the “ultimate fallout” of her rejection.
The recovery of these social media posts, dated earlier in August, also dismisses the initial speculation that Deshraj procured the firearm via a cousin who visited Kanchrapara just before the killing. Instead, police now believe Deshraj had secured the weapon much earlier.
“It could not be ascertained so far from where Deshraj had actually obtained the gun,” a police officer stated. “But we came to know that he had visited his native town Deoria last month and might have returned to Kanchrapara with the firearm, since several of his extended family members have criminal antecedents and could have provided him with the weapon.”
Family Stonewalling Probe
As Deshraj remains elusive three days after the murder, the Krishnanagar police are facing significant resistance from his relatives.
Senior officers claimed that Deshraj’s extended family members in Deoria are not cooperating with the investigation. “Since the role of some of the extended family members who shared a close rapport with Deshraj is under the scanner, they are not cooperating enough and are even instigating local people against us,” a senior officer of Krishnanagar police district said. “Nevertheless, we are hopeful of nabbing Deshraj and unravelling the mystery behind the murder.”
Meanwhile, the victim’s family is expressing growing dissatisfaction with the slow pace of the police investigation. “It is not clear what police are actually doing… all of us are gradually losing patience,” a family member of the deceased girl stated, reflecting the mounting pressure on the authorities to secure an arrest.
