BJP Sweeps Nadia with 13 of 17 Seats as Matua Vote Seals Decisive Victory

BJP supporters celebrate victory outside a counting centre in Ranaghat town on Monday afternoon.

Krishnanagar, May 4: Riding the broader statewide surge, the Bharatiya Janata Party delivered a commanding performance in Nadia district, mirroring its dominance across Bengal. Out of 17 Assembly seats in the district, the BJP clinched 13, decisively outplaying the All India Trinamool Congress in both urban pockets and rural belts. The scale of the BJP’s surge more evident than in Nadia district, where the party registered a dominant performance.

The party’s gains were particularly striking in Matua-dominated regions, where the community appeared to repose faith in the saffron camp, brushing aside the Trinamool’s narrative on targeted exclusion of migrant Hindus from Bangladesh. Citizenship and identity concerns—long central to the marginalised Matua population—seem to have tilted the balance firmly in favour of the BJP, contributing significantly to its sweeping success in the district.
