Chapra, Aug. 08: A head constable of BSF suffered a bullet injury when a group of smugglers allegedly attacked a team of the force that was conducting a raid in search of narcotics at Sikra village of Chapra, located adjacent to the Indo-Bangladesh border on Monday afternoon.
Satish Kumar, 43, attached to the Battalion-82 under the Krishnanagar sector, received bullets on his left hand when the miscreants began indiscriminate firing using countrymade firearms and also shot pellets surrounding the BSF team.
The injured constable was later rushed to Chapra block hospital and was later transferred to the Nadia district hospital in Krishnagar.
Speaking to The NfN BSF’s South Bengal Frontier’s DIG (G) Amerish Arya said, “We had a tip-off about a stockyard of narcotics at a house in the Sikra village of Chapra. We spotted the house and began a raid there at about 4 pm. Our personnel also found a large quantity of Phensidyl there when a group of about 15 miscreants began firing indiscriminately. It was a sudden deadly attack in which one head constable of the raiding team suffered serious bullet injury”.
“However, our personnel did not open fire since the location of the attack was inside a village and there were a large number of people in and around the spot when the attack occurred”, the DIG added.
“We have adopted a zero-tolerance policy against smuggling along the border and conducting raids at the narcotics dens while thwarting smuggling bids that apparently made the miscreants desperate to lead an attack on our team”, the DIG added further.
A police team later rushed to the spot and began a combing operation in the area. However, no suspected smugglers could be arrested till late in the evening.
Chapra police have started two separate cases under the NDPS Act and under IPC for murder attempts on the basis of complaints lodged by BSF authorities.
