Youth Gets Life Sentence For Sodomising Boy

Krishnanagar, April 19: A special court in Krishnanagar today sentenced a youth to life term imprisonment for sodomizing an 8-year-old boy, observing that a deterrent punishment required in such horrific crimes to convey a strong message to the society.

Additional district session judge-II Jimut Bahan Biswas, the designated judge of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) Court refusing to show any leniency announced the sentence for Ajay Ghosh alias Ananta, a resident of Ghospara village of Nakashipara-Birpurghat for sodomising the boy that caused serious injuries to the victim.

The court has also imposed on a fine of Rupees 1-lakh on Ajay. It has directed the state government to pay a compensation of Rupees 3-lakhs for the boy to ensure his social and financial security in future.

According to the prosecution, on September 28, 2016 when the minor boy was playing outside his house, Ajay, who is a neighbor, took him to a nearby bamboo orchard and committed unnatural sex with him.

Assistant public prosecutor Milan Ghosh said: “The boy was critically injured and went unconscious in pain, who told his parents about the incident and a complaint was lodged at the Nakashipara police station on the next day”.

On October 1, 2016, accused Ajay was arrested by Nakashipara police and tried under section 377 (unnatural sex) of IPC and relevant sections of the POCSO Act.
