Kalyani, Oct. 31: The Kalyani University would felicitate 147 retired teachers and non teaching staff on the occasion of its 58th Foundation day on November 1. The University authorities have invited these teachers and officials tomorrow for a visit to the campus when they will be given a ride inside there and be felicitated as a mark of recognition to their contribution towards the University.
These 147 retired staff which includes at least 50 persons aged between 75 to 97 years.
As a result 97 years old Byomkesh Ghosh, who once worked as a senior assistant or 96 years old Tulasi Charan Ghosal, who was a reader are now waiting eagerly to visit the campus after gap of about 35 years.
“We have planned to make a difference in this foundation day by inviting those people who once contributed their best for this Institution. Our objective is to show them that at the age of 58, the University has attained many successes and become one of the top ranked universities in the country, but never forgotten them”.
The Kalyani University started function on November 1, 1960 under a master plan envisaged by the Bengal chief minister Bidhan Chandra Roy for the newly built town Kalyani with the faculties of Arts, Science, Education and Agriculture. In 1975, the agriculture faculty evolved into a full-fledged university as Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya”.
“It is a great initiative by the University authorities. I feel honored receiving the invitation. I would be visiting the campus after a gap of about 30 years. I never expected never expected to visit to the campus again due to fragile health. But, I am now eagerly waiting for the day”, a retired professor said.
